Original Entry is coursework software. It holds your name, your school email address and the accounting work you do in it, and nothing else about you.

What it keeps

Your name and email address, and which sections you are enrolled in.
The work itself: how you handled each document, your journal entries, your postings, the statements you build, the figures you submit at a checkpoint, and when you submitted.
Your marks, the evidence the marking rules used, and any comment your instructor leaves.
Timestamps of what you did and when, including saves the app refused, so your instructor can see what you were stuck on.
Sign-in requests, stored as one-way hashes. The link and the code themselves are never written down anywhere we can read them.

What it never does

No advertising, and nothing about you is sold or shared for marketing.
No analytics, no tracking pixels, no third-party scripts.
No fonts, styles or scripts loaded from anyone else's servers: opening your books tells no other company that you did.
No profile of you beyond the marking of this coursework.

Who sees it

You, and the instructor and graders for your section. They can open your books read-only to answer a question, and the app records when staff do anything to your record and why. No other student can reach your work: every page checks whose books it is showing.

Where it lives

In one PostgreSQL database, encrypted at rest, reached only over an encrypted connection. Your email address also passes through the service that sends your sign-in message; that message carries a link, a six-digit code and an expiry time, and never your name, your work or your marks.

Cookies

One cookie, which keeps you signed in. It is not shared with anyone and it is not used to follow you anywhere. If you ask to stay signed in on a computer, it lasts longer; on a shared or lab machine, leave that unticked and it ends when the browser closes.

How long it is kept

Your work is kept for as long as your institution's records policy requires, and then deleted outright: the work, the marks, the timestamps and the account. Sign-in records are deleted after thirty days. Course material itself is not personal data and stays.

Asking about your own record

Ask your instructor. They can show you everything the app holds about you, including the whole record of your work as a printable page, and they can have it deleted. Your education records are governed by your institution's policies, and your institution decides what happens to them; this app is the tool they use to keep them.

Changes

If this changes in a way that affects what is kept or who sees it, the date at the top changes and your instructor will say so.
